Socio-linguistic Inclusion

Within the framework of the EGAL-I project, "sociolinguistic inclusion" refers to the process of overcoming language and cultural barriers that hinder refugee and exiled students from accessing, navigating, and thriving within higher education systems and their host societies and countries. It aims to transition these students from focusing solely on survival to rebuilding their academic trajectories and fostering social belonging through tailored language support and inclusive intercultural dialogues.

To achieve this, EGAL-I will implement a series of activities with 3 specialised partners: University Paris 8, University of Hamburg, and the NGO RES. More specifically:

University Paris 8 (France) will create and organise training sessions for association members and higher education tutors to provide dedicated sociolinguistic support to refugee students. UP8 will also design specialized French language learning syllabuses for Higher Education Institutions.
University of Hamburg (Germany) will deploy, thank to their UHHHilft programme, a Socio-linguistics Programme focused on providing integrated language study support and peer networking opportunities for refugee students.
RES(France) will address the sociolinguistic and socio-cultural needs of refugee students through organized socio-cultural events and intensive language training to facilitate integration and reduce social isolation.

Social Justice & Empowerment

Within the framework of the EGAL-I project and its Social Justice axis, we aim to strengthen the capacity of Higher Education Institutions to guarantee equitable and just socio-academic inclusion for refugee and exiled students. Our objective relies on cooperation between the academic world and civil society to combat systemic inequalities and empower refugee students to become full actors in their academic and civic journeys.

Within this theme, two EGAL-I partners will implement and deploy targeted actions:

University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Italy) will contribute to developing approaches and mechanisms that promote equity, access to rights, and the active participation of refugee students within both the university and local communities.
Kaunas University of Technology (Lithuania) will provide its expertise to design support mechanisms focused on social justice, helping to remove institutional barriers and enhance the skills of refugee students within an inclusive learning environment.

Open innovation & Entrepreneurship

Within the framework of the EGAL-I project, the "Open Innovation and Entrepreneurship" axis aims to enhance the capacity of Higher Education Institutions to address the socio-academic inclusion of refugee students by bridging the gap between academia, society, and practical economic empowerment. Within this theme, EGAL-I partners have the objective to leverage open innovation processes to foster community participation, boost digital and entrepreneurial skills, and provide action-oriented pathways for refugee students to rethink and rebuild their professional career.

Through this theme, two specialised EGAL-I partners will implement targeted activities:

Web2Learn(Greece) will share its expertise in social innovation, open science, and digital skills development, focusing on community participation and the creation of open access resources to empower student initiatives.
Lviv Polytechnic National University (Ukraine) will design practical entrepreneurial framework support and hands-on innovation activities, reinforcing their internally displaced students' resilience and societal integration through business and community synergy.
